The ubiquitous Monstera

Originating from the tropical rainforests of Central America, the Monstera has an evolutionary lineage which dates back millions of years. Its Latin name means "monstrous," which stems from its distinctive, naturally fenestrated leaves.

The Monstera deliciosa was formally recorded in the 1840s by European botanists exploring Mexico and Guatemala, quickly becoming an exotic addition to European botanical gardens.

As the popularity of houseplants grew in the seventies, it quickly established itself as a leading cultural icon, bringing tropical exoticism to domestic interiors across the country.

Its striking foliage is immediately recogniseable, adding drama and vitality to any space. It has remained in high regard of houseplant lovers as a low maintenance and easy plant to home, and is the staple of any houseplant collection.
